Considering the media attention focused on the New Hampshire primary and the Iowa caucuses, why do you think states have moved their primary dates earlier in the election year?

What will be an ideal response?

Answer:
An ideal response will:
1. Discuss how states such as Iowa and New Hampshire have a great deal of influence over the nomination process because these states hold their caucuses/primaries early.
2. Discuss the "front-end strategy" that places heavy emphasis on the results from Iowa and New Hampshire. Candidates who perform well in the early states will generate increased media attention.
3. Discuss how other states have realized that states which hold their primaries earlier will have greater influence over the nomination process. This has resulted in Super Tuesday, where a number of states have held their primaries on the same day. Additionally, states such as Florida (2008 and 2012) and Michigan (2008) have moved their primaries up despite objections from the political parties to increase their influence in the elections. This has resulted in loss of delegates, but the early influence remains.
