The musical arrangements otherwise lie very close to the style of national music compositions described above

• When Chinese people explain what makes their music "Chinese," they refer "not only to sonic and geographical characteristics, but also to contexts and usages of performances and to the emotional and social content generated through acts of making music."
• Like the opposing yin-yang duality, Chinese "music" and "life" are "opposed but inherently linked, and any account of the specific sound materials of Chinese music is necessarily also one of Chinese life more generally.
