What is source and destination formatting and how do they differ? Please give an example of when you would use each.
What will be an ideal response?
(Answers will vary)
You can choose to paste the text so its appearance matches the original appearance (source formatting), so its appearance matches or merges with the text in the location where it is being pasted (destination formatting), or so it is pasted as text only, with no custom formatting. This means that it will match the formatting of the location where it is being pasted.
Source Formatting Example:
- Copying a resume "as is" into a Word document
- Copying one section of a specially-formatted document to another section of the same document when you want both sections to appear the same
Destination Formatting Example:
- Copying text from several students to put into one report
- Copying text from an outside source (i.e. Web site, PDF) to put into a Word document and wanting the appearance of the text to match the Word document
