To animate a symbol along a path, you place a single symbol on an otherwise empty layer. You then select the keyframe on the Timeline and insert a motion tween from the Insert menu. Flash adds 24 frames of a motion tween, identified by blue shading and a keyframe at the last frame. To place the symbol in a new location on the stage, you click any frame in the motion tween frames on the Timeline and drag the symbol to a new location. Flash automatically adds a keyframe and displays a line, called a motion path, with points to indicate the path the symbol will follow as it moves across the stage. Dragging the endpoints of the motion path with the Selection Tool lets you lengthen or shorten the distance covered by the symbol. Dragging any point on the motion path lets you curve or otherwise reshape the path. You can drag the motion path with the Subselection Tool to reposition it. Although the motion path appears on the stage as you create the animation in Flash, it does not appear when the movie is tested or published.
