Describe the differences between authoritative and authoritarian parenting. Include some of what is known about the outcomes of each parenting style

What will be an ideal response?

Authoritarian parents place strict rules on children and tend to believe in the "spare the
rod, spoil the child" approach. To these parents, obedience is a virtue in its own right.
Authoritative parents transmit their expectations clearly, but also take the child's
viewpoint into account. Authoritarian parents expect their children to obey them
without question. Children of authoritarian parents tend to be hostile and have lower
self-esteem than children of authoritative parents. Children of authoritative parents are
more self-reliant, have higher self-esteem, and are more independent.
