What is the current thinking regarding Etruscan art as merely derivative?

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Current thinking has been modified based on the Tomb of the Diver at Paestum. The Paestum composition emulated older Etruscan designs and nothing similar could be found in contemporary Greek art (and the tomb is located in Italy and is later than the Tomb of Hunting and Fishing. This has now changed the art historical judgment that Etruscan art was merely derivative and that Etruscan artists never set a standard for Greek artists.
