Outline the relationship between energy use and global warming.
What will be an ideal response?
Most energy consumed in the United States is produced by burning fossil fuels-such as oil, coal, and natural gas. Burning fossil fuels pollutes the air and is a global problem. Mounting evidence indicates that pollution from burning fossil fuels, primarily carbon dioxide, has increased temperatures worldwide, creating a greenhouse effect-like in a greenhouse, where the walls and roof trap solar heat, warming the inside temperature and not allowing the interior air and heat to escape. Global warming, the gradual average increase in the earth's temperature, is the result of pollution that traps solar heat in the earth's atmosphere.
