voices, an instrument or a group of instruments, or some other sound. The other kind:

a. takes instrument sounds and turns them into vocal sounds
b. deals with electronic mixing
c. involves lifting short excerpts from existing recordings to use in a new recording
d. tries different instruments to see which best fits the recording
