Is an aircraft’s automatic pilot an example of a dedicated or a general?purpose computer?

What will be an ideal response?

The auto?pilot is a dedicated computer because it solves only a single class of problems (controlling the aircraft’s flight path). However, because of the complexity of the modern autopilot, it is highly probable that there is a general?purpose computer at the heart of an autopilot. This computer uses a fixed program in readonly memory. However, this program will be in flash memory that can be user?updated to deal with bug?fixes and new revisions of the software.
