Discuss the existing disparity in U.S. infant mortality rates

Infant mortality rates also vary by population subgroups. In the United States, black infant mortality rates are more than twice as high as non-Hispanic white rates. Racial disparity in infant deaths cannot be explained by differences in socioeconomic status. For example, black mothers with college degrees or higher face similar risk of infant mortality as white women who have not finished high school. Biological differences and genetics also do not account for the observed racial and ethnic differences in infant mortality. Researchers who have reviewed epidemiological patterns in infant mortality do not find support for the idea of biology or genetics as the driving force in observed differences. Instead, the patterns of racial disparity in mortality, and changing prematurity rates for infants from African immigrant populations, point to social explanations?
