This involves the use of one CPT codeto report a group of related procedures as in a surgical package. The surgical package includes services in addition to the surgical procedure itself. These include:
• One E&M visit on the date immediately prior to or on the date of the procedure, subsequent to the decision for surgery
• Preparing the patient for surgery, including local infiltration and topical anesthesia
• Performing the operation, including normal additional procedures, such as debridement
• Immediate postoperative care, including dictating operative notes and talking with the family and other physicians
• Writing orders
• Evaluating the patient in the postanesthesia recovery area
• Typical postoperative follow-up
