Students should first be able to define the millennium development goals as eight goals adopted by the United Nations to address inequity in the international system with the objective to improve people’s lives globally by 2015. Students should then give three examples of millennium development goals, which may include to eradicate extreme hunger and poverty; to achieve universal primary education; to promote gender equality and empower women; to reduce child mortality; to improve maternal health; to combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; to ensure environmental sustainability; or to develop a global partnership for development.
