What is the purpose of experimental research?

What will be an ideal response?

The major purpose of experimental research is to study causal relationships. The simplest experimental study seeks only to ascertain whether there is a direct link between two factors, that is, whether changes in a given factor produce changes in another factor. A more complex experimental study seeks to assess the importance of magnitude of the changes caused, namely, the size of the effect. Still more complex experimental research examines the relative effects of a host of relevant factors on the dependent variable of interest.
