Describe the features of IP encapsulation provided by a VPN.

What will be an ideal response?

VPNs protect packets by performing IP encapsulation, the process of enclosing one packet within another one that has different IP source and destination information. Encapsulating IP packets within other packets hides the source and destination information of the encapsulated packets; the encapsulating packet uses the source and destination addresses of the VPN gateway. The gateway might be a router that uses IPSec, a VPN appliance, or a firewall that functions as a VPN and that has a gateway set up.  What's more, because a VPN tunnel is being used, the source and destination IP addresses of the encapsulated packets can be in the private reserved blocks that are not usually routable over the Internet, such as the 10.0.0.0/8 addresses or the 192.168.0.0/16 reserved network blocks.
