In addition to being used as pets, ferrets historically have been used by humans in other ways:
(a) People use ferrets for hunting rabbits, driving out rats, wiring airplanes, and researching human colds.

farm or granary to go into holes and chase out rodents. People and dogs would wait for the rats to come
