Name, describe, and explain the purposes of the three major parts of a speech
What will be an ideal response?
The three major parts of a speech include the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The introduction is used to
draw the audience's attention, to establish your credibility, and to indicate what the body of your speech will
include. The purpose of the body is to include the developed ideas expressed in your thesis statement, provide an
organization to your speech, and include support material you found during research. The functions of the
conclusion are to draw your speech to an end, to reiterate the central theme of your presentation, and to indicate to
the members of your audience what you would like them to do or think about.
