Discuss the classifications of fonts and the best uses of each.

What will be an ideal response?

There are two classifications of fonts: sans-serif and serif. Sans-serif fonts are plain characters without the small strokes at the top and bottom of letters. They are used frequently for headings and subheadings in printed text. Examples of sans-serif fonts are Arial, Verdana, and Helvetica. Serif fonts are more ornate, with small extra strokes at the top and bottom of the characters. They are generally easier to read in printed material because the extra strokes lead your eye from one character to the next. Examples of serif fonts are Times New Roman, Garamond, and Georgia. Many designers feel that sans-serif fonts are preferable for files read electronically, while serif fonts are preferable for printed materials. When choosing fonts, limit each web site to three font variations or less. Avoid using a tiny font size that viewers will have to enlarge or font colors that are difficult to see against the page background.
