Adopters can be divided into subgroups by their innovativeness and described by similarities in personal characteristics and communication style. Innovators are the initial users of an innovation and tend to be described as adventurous and comfortable with risk. Subsequent groups of adopters are less innovative and have a greater aversion to risk. They include: early adopters, early majority, late majority, and laggards.?
