How do children in the U.S. typically react to the addition of a sibling?

What will be an ideal response?

This seems to depend on the child. In general, a new sibling is met with ambivalence on the part of the older sibling. They may express love and warmth along with jealousy toward the younger sibling. Conflict occurs but it seems to have a positive effect on both of their growth.
