The patient was prepped and draped in the usual fashion. A transabdominal incision was made, and the herniated stomach was visualized. The stomach was returned to the appropriate position in the abdominal cavity. The hernia sac was cut away and removed. Sutures were placed in the diaphragm to narrow the enlarged opening. A chest tube was inserted. The abdomen was closed. Drains were placed, and the wound was sutured. The patient tolerated the procedure and was sent to the recovery room in stable condition.
