In the spanning tree protocol, how does a LAN switch/bridge decide which ports are in a blocking state?

What will be an ideal response?

When each bridge performs the spanning tree algorithm, it determines the root bridge, root port on all other bridges and designated port on each LAN by exchanging BPDU’s. After the calculation, the bridge can decide which ports are in the spanning tree selecting its root port and all ports for which the bridge is the designated bridge. If a port is not in the spanning tree, this is a blocked port.
