What will be an ideal response?
The social penetration model explains the process of relational development through examining how people connect with each, as their relational talk moves from small talk to more intimate and selfdisclosing talk. Specifically, social penetration describes how disclosure and intimacy are related in a
relationship. According to the theory, self-disclosure increases gradually as the relationship develops.
As the relationship becomes more intimate, more topics are discussed and the depth in which they are
discussed is greater.
