Scholarship tends to support the notion that leadership qualities are developed through
experience. Although no trait or set of traits consistently appears in leaders, successful leaders
tend to have more adaptability, ambition, creativity, inspiration, rapid information processing,
self-confidence, desire to lead, fair-mindedness, focus on empowerment, supportiveness,
technological knowledge, and trustworthiness. Task roles are those focused on accomplishing
the group's goal; maintenance roles foster positive relationships.
