Discuss the elements of Homeric epic transformed by Derek Walcott in Omeros and Isaac Julien in Paradise Omeros

Please provide the best answer for the statement.

1. Isaac Julien’s video installation Paradise Omeros was based on the book-length epic poem by Derek Walcott (1930–2017) titled Omeros, the modern Greek word for “Homer.” Like Odysseus, Walcott’s and Julien’s hero wanders the seas, his ancestors having arrived in Saint Lucia from Africa via the slave trade. The hero immigrates to London and there encounters, in the present day, the “monster” of racial prejudice.
2. Many of the poem’s characters take Homeric names, such as the fishermen Hector and Achilles. The sea is an enduring presence in the poem, as are encounters with the Other and the search for identity and belonging.
3. Walcott’s epic poem is on a less heroic scale than Homer’s—he uses word play and riffs on popular culture to poke holes in any seeming pomposity. At the same time, he presents a fundamentally serious and beautifully wrought transformation of the universal themes brought to life in Homer’s original.
