Define external validity in research design. Describe in detail one threat to the external validity of a research study. Be sure to specify how that characteristic is a threat to external validity
What will be an ideal response?
External validity is the degree to which the results of a study can be generalized outside the specific confines of the study. A threat to external validity is any feature of the study that limits generalization of the results. Threats to external validity can be classified into three categories: (1) results obtained for a unique group of participants may not generalize to other participants; (2) results obtained from a study with unique features not generalize to other studies; (3) results obtained with a specific measurement procedure may not generalize to other measurement procedures.
