• The dissenter can agree to "stand down." The dissenter voices his or her disagreement but states that he or she will abide by and support the decision made by the group.
• The group can continue to work with the dissenter until absolute consensus is achieved and remain at status quo until then.
• The group can discontinue the process and reconvene at a time when the dissenter may be more inclined to agree, or work with the dissenter outside the meeting context to explore whether a workable agreement is yet possible.
• The group can override the dissenter and implement the decision. This is the option the group may particularly be inclined to take when they sense that the dissenter is "holding them hostage."
