What is a false-negative aspiration and how can it be prevented?
What will be an ideal response?
Despite performing aspiration tests correctly, it is still possible to have "false-negative" aspirations at times. This can occur when a bevel is in contact with a vessel wall. During an aspiration test, negative pressure can retract the vessel wall into the lumen of the needle blocking the flow of blood through the needle into the cartridge. To check for false-negative responses, rotate the syringe slightly, and reposition the bevel away from the vessel wall. This step is encouraged for all injections in which there is a greater risk of positive aspiration.
