Explain how the three theoretical frameworks of the West, the South and the Natural World can be used to explain persistent poverty in the world.
What will be an ideal response?
Each theory offers an explanation as to why there is still so much poverty in the world. The framework of the West emphasizes the role that Western nations have played in the exploitation and abuse of the world’s poor nations through things like supporting corrupt political regimes, slavery, and poorly administered aid programs. The framework of the South illustrates the internal problems that the developing countries have such as lack of social cohesion and poor political structures and corrupt regimes. Finally the framework of the Natural World includes the geographical, climate, and lack or abundance of resources nations have and how that contributes to their level of development.
