What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary. Inrecentyears, China has exhibited nationalist tendencies that have alarmed some of its neighbors. China is engaged in a territorial dispute with Japan over uninhabited islands in the East China Sea. China has also claimed almost all of the uninhabited islands located in the South China Sea, even ones that are a considerable distance from the Chinese mainland. These claims have resulted in military confrontations with the Philippines and Vietnam. In 2012, President Obama announced a "pivot" to East Asia. The pivot involves shifting naval resources into the region and negotiating enhanced security relationships with area nations. China's response was to accuse the United States of attempting to "contain" China.
