Why is focused observation necessary for scientific observation but not necessarily for casual observation?

When scientists observe behavior, it is with a specific goal. As such, it is critical to identify the nature of the behaviors that are important. Otherwise the information gathered won't systematically relate to the question the researcher wants to answer.
