The textbook lists 5 organizational patterns speakers can use for persuasive speeches. Describe

3 of these and explain the purposes or situations for which they are most effective.

What will be an ideal response?

Statement of logical reasons is a persuasive pattern for arguments. A variation of the
topical pattern, it works well if the audience mostly agrees with the speaker. Persuasive patterns
for problems and solutions are problem-solution (convinces listeners that a problem exists),
progressive-questions (uses questions of fact, conjecture, value, and policy to walk the audience
through the problem-solving process), and comparative-advantages (shows that the speaker's
plan is better than other plans for solving the problem and works well when audiences agree that
a problem exists but do not agree on how to solve it). Motivated-sequence, a pattern for policy
and action, works well to actuate the audience.
