What is the rationale for not using a cold application prior to aggressive/passive Range of Motion (ROM) and stretching exercises?

What will be an ideal response?

Cold will increase general stiffness by decreasing soft tissue extensibility and increasing joint viscosity. Increased stiffness and reduced sensory feedback due to the anesthetic effect of the cold may increase the risk for tissue tearing during vigorous stretching interventions.
