Review the Roe v. Wade decision and draw a time line showing the shifting emphasis of decision making in regard to whose rights have to be considered in the abortion decision (the father's, the mother's, the mother's and physician's, the state's)
The court's decision balanced the interest of the woman and the state, allowing the woman greater freedom of action in the beginning of the pregnancy, and the state a greater right to regulate the process as the fetus develops. The act is very balanced. In the early stages the matter is truly between the mother and her doctor. As the fetus develops, there is a gradual shifting away from the mother toward the fetus and the state. The biological father has very little say in the matter whether early or late.
