Briefly explain the association between poor health and socioeconomic status (SES)
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: Socioeconomic status (SES) plays a large role in the health of Americans. Caucasians and African Americans who have the same SES appear to have similar death rates, with the African Americans' death rate actually falling below that of Caucasians. The lower the family income, the more likely the family has a member with a disabling illness. Reasons for this include: low socioeconomic status workers have riskier jobs and inferior health care and are likely to live in areas with a higher crime rate and more environmental pollutants.
