Explain why adolescents of ethnic minorities tend to model athletes and "famous" individuals rather than people that they are familiar with in their everyday lives, even if these people are high achievers
What will be an ideal response?
Media influence seems to be the biggest factor here. Since athletes, singers, movie stars, etc., are held in high esteem by the media, teens are likely to want to model them. This is combined with the fact that the media often portray ethnic minority students or teens as low achievers.
