What is HIPAA 5010? What are the phases of implementation?
What will be an ideal response?
HIPAA 5010 is an upgrade on the existing form of HIPAA. It is not a significant change in the way HIPAA has operating thus far for processing transactions in the healthcare industry. The changes in the HIPAA 5010 have been anticipated and in the works for a number of years now. HIPAA has begun to be outdated and thus the changes are being implemented. HIPAA 5010 has been created to coincide with the new changes in the revised medical billing/coding data of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS. The changes to the coding systems are set to start on October 1, 2013 . This extended date will allow all medical practices and the entire healthcare industry to have enough time to understand the new coding procedures.
