If time permits, this task should be given a few days for completion so that students can exhaust several different resources to see what the general trend is for job requirements in their profession. Students should be looking for specific qualifications, such as number of years experience required or preferred, the name(s) of the certification(s) required or preferred, or education level required or preferred. Students should also recognize differences among requirements for different types of facilities or companies that employ workers in their allied health specialty. For example, hospitals, pharmacies, and county health departments tend to have more stringent qualification requirements for employment than do private or independent practices in many communities. Have students list the resources they use for this assignment so that they can revisit these, at least weekly, as they are beginning their job searches.
