The bandwidth to the device (the content may need to be compressed); the preferences of the user (e.g. do they prefer audio to visual data?); the capabilities of the user’s device (e.g. do they have audio ourput? What is the screen size?); the needs implied by the user’s current task (e.g. what type of map do they need?). Etc.
