What items should an organization consider when deciding whether to employ in-house investigatory expertise?
What will be an ideal response?
An organization should consider the following in deciding whether to employ in-house investigatory expertise:
· Cost - This includes the tools, hardware, and other equipment used to collect and examine digital information as well as staffing and training.
· Response time - Although hiring an outside forensic consultant may seem less expensive because you only pay when the service is actually used, the interruption to normal business operations while the consultant gets up to speed may turn out to be more expensive than maintaining an in-house forensic capability.
· Data sensitivity - Providing outside consultants with access to the organization's information resources may prove complicated. Forensic data collection can expose highly sensitive information, such as personal health records, credit card information, business plans, and other sensitive information.
