How is malnutrition in the infant related to the mother?

What will be an ideal response?

Malnutrition is associated with poverty. If there is no one to breast-feed the infant or a mother can't breast feed and can't obtain adequate formula and clean water, malnutrition will result. There are many reasons a mother might not breast feed including illness, transmissible disease, inability to produce enough milk due to her own malnutrition, cultural or personal aversion, or having been convinced formula is better.
