FIFO (first-in, first-out) serves first the customer who entered earliest and who has been in line longest; LIFO serves first the customer who entered most recently. FIFO exhibits a fairness to people waiting; LIFO is something like an in-basket on a desk, where the top piece of paper was the last entered, but the first to be serviced.
