It is often to a company's advantage to use psychographic, values, behavioral, and needs segmentation in addition to demographic segmentation. A segment created with only one or two variables may not meet the criteria of a true segment. By using several segmentation bases, a company can identify segments with product needs relevant to the company's products. To gain the potential advantages of more effectively using marketing dollars and creating products and marketing messages to appeal to certain segments, a company should identify consumer segments as closely as possible.
