Research on the relationship between gender and leadership style suggests that gender differences could be examined through two dimensions. Explain what those dimensions are and what the research findings are surrounding these dimensions
What will be an ideal response?
One dimension is task accomplishment versus maintenance of interpersonal relationships. With regard to this dimension, leaders can focus on the continuum between task accomplishments and meeting
goals and/or on the relationships among group members. Research suggests that there is no
significant difference between men and women's leadership behaviors on this dimension. The second
dimension addresses participative (democratic) versus directive (autocratic) leadership styles, in
which leaders can engage each other in the decision-making process or maintain complete control of
the decisions and processes for the group. Research suggests that women tend to be more participative
in style than males.
