Describe the current research regarding egocentrism as it relates to Piaget's theories and cite
two examples to back up your answer.
What will be an ideal response?
Researchers currently believe that young children are egocentric but less so than Piaget
thought. For instance, children as young as two or three appear to have some understanding that others
see and experience things differently than they do. Examples include: they adapt their speech and play
according to the age of their playmates, whether older or younger. They comfort other children who
are upset, even though they may not be.
