What is the difference between closed-list proportional representation and open-list proportional representation?
What will be an ideal response?
In closed-list proportional representation the voters choose the party and then the parties will split the seats according to how many votes each party received. Each party will appoint its representatives according to the order of a prearranged list of candidates. In open-list proportional representation the voters choose the individuals of a specific party. In this case, different parties are still awarded the seats proportional to how many votes they won but the seats will go to the top individual vote-getters in each party. Closed list tends to produce much stronger parties.
