ICS predates Ethernet and the TCP/IP protocols, but the predominance of Ethernet and TCP/IP has created a number of ICS solutions that use Ethernet and TCP/IP instead of proprietary cabling systems and communication protocols. If you were going to build an ICS from scratch today, odds are good that you would use Ethernet as your interconnection of choice.
