Negotiation is a process that is predicated on a manager's ability to use his influence productively. Negotiation skills are important because much of a project manager's life is taken up in bargaining sessions of one type or another. From stakeholder management to arranging for project team members to have more time away from their regular duties, a project manager must be able to negotiate with a wide variety of parties from positions of power and little power.
