Basic increases fundamental knowledge, source of most new and advanced research techniques, usefulness in the future. Foundation for knowledge that advances understanding. Applied addresses specific concern, or offers solutions to a problem. Researchers rarely worry about building, testing or connecting findings to larger theory.
Most applied research is descriptive or evaluative.
