Why is the transition to middle school difficult for some adolescents?

What will be an ideal response?

At the same time that adolescents are making the transition to middle school, most are beginning puberty and
coming to grips with the changes taking place in their bodies. Furthermore, their thinking is becoming more
sophisticated, and their relationships with their family and friends are becoming far more complicated than ever
before. Also, middle schools provide a very different educational structure from the one they grew accustomed to
in elementary school. Also, because they are the youngest and least experienced, students in middle school enter an
environment in which they suddenly find themselves at the bottom of the status hierarchy. Finally, middle schools
are typically considerably larger than elementary schools.
