Briefly describe the purpose of SNMP and three components of SNMP (in version 1 and version 2)
What will be an ideal response?
SNMP is Simple Network Management Protocol, a lightweight software system used to verify connectivity, periodically get information from manages devices, and receive unsolicited messages from devices on which significant events have occurred.
The three components of SNMP are as follows:
• SNMP manager:This is the device that collects information from the managed devices and aggregates the results (typically called the network management server).
• SNMP agent:This is a managed device on the network that is configured to accept and send SNMP messages.
• Management Information Base (MIB):This is the information about the managed devices and its activities. This is commonly maintained by the SNMP devices themselves.
